Sharon and Paul had lived in their Yarraville home for 30 years. While they’d done some renovation work here and there, they were ready to commit to a full renovation that would last.

 

The internal layout was scattered with the kitchen in the middle of the home and the four bedrooms separated – two at the front, two at the back. Sharon and Paul wanted to relocate the rear bedrooms and kitchen to improve the flow and create a more modern, open-plan home.

Our design team reconfigured the layout to create two distinct zones – a private zone at the front of the home containing the bedrooms and main bathroom, and a shared zone at the back of the home containing the lounge, laundry/bathroom, kitchen, living and dining areas. The aim was to create a flexible and open layout that felt connected to the outdoors and optimised the amount of natural light entering the home.

 

An angled rear wall was incorporated into the design to further enhance the natural light in the living spaces. Our design team also included a gable-pitched ceiling and contrast of ceiling height between the kitchen and living area to create a sense of volume despite the limited footprint.

 

Interior finishes include blackbutt timber floors, a Caesarstone benchtop in Frozen Terra, Polytec thermolaminated joinery in the Hampton profile, and Polytec Prime Oak bookshelves.

The house is warmer and quieter and we feel quite excited with our lovely new renovation. The renovation has made us clear lots of stuff that we no longer wanted or needed. It has also reinforced the fact that we love our home, our street and Yarraville!’
