Contemporary family living renovation tied with restored heritage
Having recently moved into their home, Ryan and Alexandra were ready to transform the existing layout into a more functional and contemporary space for their young family. They engaged BCT Group to design and deliver a renovation and extension that would bring open‑plan living, additional comfort, and renewed character to the property.
The vision for the home centered around creating a spacious open‑plan area at the rear, combining the kitchen, dining and lounge into one light‑filled, connected zone. Options to extend toward the rear or to the side boundary were explored to maximise usable space and improve the flow of family living.
A new master suite was added, complete with a walk‑in robe or built‑in robes and a private ensuite. The existing bedrooms will continue to accommodate the couple’s two boys, with plans for built‑in robes and desks to support functionality as they grow. The main bathroom was reimagined to include both a bath and separate shower, complemented by a new powder room for everyday convenience.
Laundry options were refined, including the potential for a European‑style layout to optimise space without compromising practicality.
An important component of the project was the front façade, which Ryan and Alexandra wished to restore to its original character in keeping with the surrounding streetscape. This included resizing the existing three‑pane window and reinstating a centred front door to enhance symmetry and charm.
The result is a home that blends contemporary family living with restored heritage character. It was a pleasure working with Ryan and Alexandra to reimagine their space and create a warm, functional and future‑proof family home.
