Having lived in the home for many years, the clients felt it was time to reimagine the way the house supported modern family living. They engaged Cook and Gordon Architects to undertake a comprehensive renovation and first‑floor extension that would improve functionality, increase space and introduce a cohesive, contemporary design language throughout the home.

The ground floor was reworked to create more generous and connected living spaces. A new open‑plan living area now forms the heart of the home, complemented by a stylish kitchen designed for both everyday use and entertaining. The kitchen features considered cabinetry, quality finishes and a butler’s pantry for enhanced storage and functionality. A discreetly integrated powder room was concealed within the layout, allowing essential amenities without disrupting the visual flow of the space. A new downstairs bedroom with an ensuite and a family bathroom were also added, providing flexibility for guests and future needs.

The project was expanded upward with a first‑floor extension that significantly increased the home’s capacity. This new level introduced two additional bedrooms, a new upstairs bathroom and a dedicated family living space, creating zones for both privacy and shared living. A standout staircase was designed as a central architectural feature, connecting the floors while anchoring the overall layout and aesthetic.

Throughout the project, careful attention was given to spatial planning, material selection and integration, ensuring the additions felt seamless with the existing home. The result is a considered renovation and extension that enhances everyday living, maximises usable space and delivers a calm, well‑resolved environment for the family.
