Steve and Eryn’s Kensington home was looking tired and too small for their growing family. The “home office” was a shelf in the corner of their three-year-old’s bedroom while Steve described having the whole family pile into one small bathroom as “a family mosh pit”. A lack of proper insulation also meant they needed two doonas and a blanket on the beds during Winter. Steve and Eryn had dreamed of renovating for a long time and in 2021, that dream became a reality.

 

After meeting Bevan at the Home Ideas Expo, they knew we were the right home building company for them. Steven said, “From the start, we trusted Bevan and the others we met to run an efficient and honest project that would deliver a quality outcome.”

 

With architecture by Angela Banks, we got to work transforming the home. The existing kitchen, dining and living areas were demolished along with the bathroom and laundry at the rear of the home. A family bathroom was added to the centre of the home so it’s easily accessible to the two ground-floor bedrooms. A separate lounge and large open-plan living, dining and kitchen area completed the ground floor renovation along with an outdoor deck.

 

We also extended up to create a spacious parents' retreat with master bedroom, walk-in robe and ensuite plus study.

 

The family are loving their ‘new’ home - not just all the additional space and functionality but the ability to sleep with only a lightweight doona and walk around without slippers!
 

The home is anything but generic with architectural angles featured inside and out. The timber panelling banquette seat and feature ceiling were a privilege to build and we’re big fans of the recycled red brick fireplace and Tasmanian oak floorboards. Feature walls in Dulux Domino, and Harbour Blue add colour to this highly textural home along with the mix of Laminex kitchen joinery in White, Terril and Classic Oak.
